No. 0976 The Voice of Freedom

Voice of Freedom

(Amir Eid with Hany Adel, of Wust al Balad)

I went out, vowing not to retreat
An' wrote with my blood on ev'ry street
Our cries reached the deafly effete
And broke down all the obstacles

Our only weapon was our dreams
T'morrow radiant before us beams
We've been waiting for ages it seems
Always searching, but unable to gain ground

Throughout every street in my country
The voice of Freedom is calling
We've held our heads up high to the sky
Hunger is no longer our reason why
What matters most is securing our rights
We give our lives to write our own History

Those of you hesitant among us
Stop rambling on and telling us
To abandon our dreams
Stop thinking only of yourself and listen:
Throughout every street in our country
The voice of Freedom is calling

(Spoken)
Dark Egyptian hands, against discrimination Rise
Outstretched amid the thund'rous roars of might
O fresh Youth,
You who wove Autumn into Spring
Awakening the martyred by the miracle you bring
Kill me, the dead will never leave your country
With the ink of blood, I write the future of my country
Is that my blood or spring?
Both are painted green
I smile from happiness and no more grieve.

Throughout every street in my country
The voice of Freedom is calling
