No. 0960 Social Transformation through Social Media...sort of

It is important to state but not overstate or underestimate the impact of social media on Egypt's revolution - which may have had more to do with the regime's shutting DOWN of all communications than the social media itself.

Nevertheless, social media was a useful tool - and one that, even if it didn't lead to the revolution, was itself useful in recording it, with projects like #18daysinEgypt (using Twitter to create a documentary about the revolution) or numerous books that are now coming out about the "tweets" of the revolution. It also helped to revolutionize the way traditional news media is carried out. It also gave ideas and inspiration to activists worldwide on the limits and advantages of utilizing social media for their causes.
